nd week on the road

nd Of January 2012. I Left the wife and kids at camp and headed for a well-known 4wd track called Blue rag range. I drove up in my truck with Greig in his Mitsubishi and Roger was his co-driver. The road from Omeo up to the turn off to the track was hilly, twisty and went through a ski resort Mount Hotham. At the turn into the track we met up with by chance the pcoa (pathfinder club of Australia) which Greig and I knew a couple of people in it. The track was of medium standard and nothing a half decent 4wd would struggle with unless of course heights is not your thing as Blue rag range sits on top of a ridge line and when sitting in the car at times it appears that there is nothing between you and the little trees 1000+feet below. Greig is one of these people who is scared of heights,  as I am  and half of the pcoa club about to find out waiting for him to come up over the rise so I could take the glory picture for him when in the distance I could see approaching 4wds on a track that  would struggle to past on a tight track. I briskly walked over the hill down to find one Greig struggling with the idea of being in the truck which as this stage the other cars had turned up so he told me to move it which I did and Greig walked to the top in the middle of the track.
Later back at camp the Kids and I went down to the creek behind the camp and did some dam building which was followed up with dinner some beers and a ripper of a fire again.

rd of January 2012, We spent the day in Omeo with a visit to all local attractions and a Pub lunch for a treat. Topped up with all supplies including gas and fuel
th of January 2012, Packed up camp and drove over another dirt mountain range in the fog and light rain to head to Dargo another old high country town. After a quick look at Dargo the town we headed down to the caravan park Wonnangatta which is placed on a nice river with mountain views.
th of January 2012, Greig, Helen, Roger and Sue left today to head home for work. So Kate and I headed of to do a track I have been waiting a couple of years to do called Billy Goat Bluff. The track up Billy goat bluff is a great one starting at about 290metres and topping out at 1445metres in a very short distance (at a guess about 4-6 km) The track at times is steep and loose and with the low lying clouds making it interesting.  At the top we had Lunch followed by a walk up to the fire tower where I was hanging onto the kids as the little chain to walk out on the rock escarpment doesn’t do much to claim your nerves. The drive back was meant to be an easy one, look at map take any of the tracks back down to the road well after driving for 1.5hr the track I was hoping to get out on was bulldozed shut and the 2nd quickest option was blocked by a tree 6 foot in diameter so the 3rd option involved 45mins of back tracking followed by another hour of driving as quick as you can on tracks marked on an offroad map as very steep. At the end of this track had a river crossing followed by a scare of a dead end thinking the track had also being blocked then following what looked like a side track to get back on the main road.
th of January 2012, Spent the day hanging out at camp did a couple of loads of washing, checked all wheel nuts (truck and trailer). We all went for a swim and ride down the rapids which was fun. I went for drive down the back of the property to find enough wood to have ourselves a fire again.
th of January 2012, the kids are hanging to get to the beach for some summer vacation so we pack up camp and drive down to lakes entrance where we book ourselves in to a shoebox which they call a caravan park. We top up our food supplies and have a swim in the pool to relax in the afternoon.
th 0f January 2012, Rain forecasted the girls and I did a puzzle of a map of a Australia while mum slept in. We went up to the Laundry mat and did 3 loads of washing and drying. I picked up another gas bottle and burner so I could cook some stuff outside. Back at camp it started raining again so Jess and I got into our swimmers and washed our truck, which by the end the rain stopped and the scratches in the paint work were plenty so out came the polish. Spent the afternoon in the van watching tv and the girls were water painting.
