1st week on the road 26th of December 2011 to the 1st of Jan 2012

26th of December. Well the time has finally come to head off after a couple of mad days of packing and then buying more roof baskets and taking back one I gave to my sister in-law (sorry will return). We end up leaving as planned from My Mum’s place at 9.45am at Warnervale.
The first day planned is a big one with me wanting to get to down to Tom Groggin just past Thredbo where we had planned to meet up with some camping friends. We made a lunch stop just south of Campbelltown, then a rest stop at Cooma for the kids and then fuel at Jindabyne before the big climb into Kosciuszko National Park and down to Tom Groggin.
Jess’s favourite thing was the swings at Cooma.

27th of December, After a big day before we had a rest day swimming in the river with the kids and setting up our camp site for a extended stay
Jess’s Favourite thing was swimming in the river.

28th of December, Went for a day trip up to Mount Pinnibar about a 35km return trip with a river crossing of the Murray and some low range and a rocky climb at the end for some great views and lunch at the top. With returning to camp we had a rest in the river.

29th of December, Was a day trip up to Thredbo where we had a look at the village, some lunch beside a dam and the girls enjoyed a story time session in Thredbo by some nice Lady.

30th of December, A mate of mine (Greg) and myself did the climb to the top of Mt Kosciuszko. We caught the chair lift up to the top of Thredbo and then walked the 6.5km to the top at a brisk pace the walk was nice with views into the greater distance the climb to the top was done in 1hr and 10min the return walk back to the lift with some lunch at the top and a toilet stop on the way down seen us complete the whole up and down in 2 hr and 30min. I still think the 1.5km back to the car park after the lift ride down nearly killed us both.
31st of December,  We hung out at camp for a rest day before new years eve funny how things work out Kate and I were only 100km down the road last new years eve.
 I had purchased a $20 blow up boat from big w a couple of weeks ago for some fun in the rivers so I finally got my mate Roger to drive me up in my truck to the river crossing of the Murray and released me down steam. Well it was great I am surprised my boat didn’t pop a hole with a couple of times me thinking I have bitten of more than my little boat could chew and it didn’t help I was going down head first.
News year’s eve involved a bbq some beers and me falling asleep around the camp fire to be woken up at 11.59 again.
1st of January, where on the move with some big hill climbs to push over to get over to Corryong for lunch in the park some food shopping, top up fuel and water.   We then proceeded over a mountain range on dirt to Omeo to setup at Omeo Caravan Park on the creek.

Cost for first week
Fuel, including the filling of the tank at home. = $470
Food including the original top up at home = $441.20
Camping= $128
Tourist stuff and others = $47
Beer = $85 (but this did give me a 30cent off docket which saved me $45 in fuel)
